1967 Firebird Convertible

Ah, yes. The only thing I love more than myself. This is my car - it is a 1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible.

1967 was the first year the Firebird was produced, and they didn't start until halfway through the year, so they didn't make too many of these. The '67 Firebird is pretty rare, and the convertible is even more rare - I've only seen 2 or 3 others on the road, ever.

I'm really not into muscle cars - I'm not really that into cars period. But ever since I first saw a '68 convertible, I was in love. I was 14 years old, and there was a blue '68 with white interior - it was a horrible combination, but I loved that car... I vowed that one day I would own one. When I finally started to research getting one 10 years later, I learned that they were rare, and very expensive, and my hopes of owning one were dashed. Then in 2001, after I was laid off from my job in San Francisco, I found one for sale online, for a very reasonable price - $10,000. I borrowed a few bucks from all my friends, flew to Des Moines (yes, Iowa), rented a car, drove to Lincoln (yes, Nebraska), and bought my car. I drove it home in 2 days, all the while wondering if I had made a mistake - it's a 30 year old car, and it hadn't been driven much in the last 10 years.... but I didn't care. I was driving my dream car, and I would have pushed it the last 500 miles with a smile on my face.

But I didn't have to worry - that old Chevy engine was solid as a rock, cruised the 2000 miles no problem.
